At Insights the safety, welfare and well-being of all pupils is paramount. We believe that safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility and we expect all staff, visitors and associates to share this commitment. All pupils, have the right to protection from all types of harm and abuse, therefore pupilsare actively encouraged to express their views and we provide opportunities for them to express any concernsthat they might have and ensure that these are taken seriously.
We take a robust approach to appointing appropriate teaching and support staff, ensuring that all staff have the health and qualifications for the post and are suitable to work with the children and young people attending the school. To assist this the school follows a safer recruitment procedure for the employment of all staff and adheres to the guidelines outlined in the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, Keeping children safe in education (2018), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and Ofsted ‘Inspecting Safeguarding in early years, education and skills settings’ briefing documentation (2018). Currently, ‘Draft – Keeping children safe in education’ (2019) is for information. The guidance will be published on 2ndSeptember 2019 and at that point KCSIE 2018 will be withdrawn. Until then the school must have regard to KCSIE 2018.
All staff are trained in safeguarding children and young adults and are made aware of the school’s safeguarding policy and child protection procedures during their induction. All concerns are treated in line with the safeguarding policy by our trained Designated Safeguarding Lead and the Designated Teacher for Looked After Children who are also senior staff.
Our priority is to ensure that the school environment remains a safe place for everyone who enters the building including members of the school community. When we welcome visitors to the school, each person will be asked for identification and will be provided with a leaflet which contains clear safeguarding advice. We work in partnership with parents, carers, local authorities and statutory agencies to continuously learn and as a result we develop and improve the safeguarding processes/culture within our school.
Our approach to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our pupils aims to help keep them safe and more importantly build their resilience to tackle the challenges and opportunities of daily life.
